Life on the Erie Canal
R.K.: Life on the Er Canal was idyllic. I was placed in
a young boy who changed the donkeys pulling the canal boats and took care of
them in a barn-like building close to the canal. The town had a boardwalk that ran along the
second stories of all the buildings, with gaslights to see by. It was beautiful
to see at night. There was also a bridge going to the other side of the canal,
from the boardwalk. It was a peaceful place, nothing bad ever happened there. I
remember working the donkeys, exploring
the waterways, laughter and parades on the canal.
