The Hive Mind

R.K.: In a place far away in space and time, on a marginal planet on the edge of the zone of life around its sun, a spark took flame. In the mud at the bottom of the oceans, a mass of small worms lived off the chemistry of the planets oceanic volcanic plumes. After millions of planetary revolutions, it became more and more evolved telepathically. The planets conditions were so marginal it prevented other life forms from coming into existence and the Hive Mind found itself alone. Slowly it learned how to alter its eggs DNA that then would hatch into tiny larval forms designed to grow into any shape (during all this time the Hive Mind remained unchanged). Although these life forms all looked different all were still telepathic and mindless, controlled by the Hive Mind. The Hive Mind began to explore its world using the many forms it had created discovering light and other radiations coming from the surface. To investigate it design a life form to process these radiations from the surface of the ocean (a biological telescope). After many tries to reach the surface, the Hive Mind beheld for the first time the heavens. After many hours of watching the stars, their own star began to rise.

The creature remained and watched till it died, for this was a one-way trip. From this experience, the Hive Mine of the planet realized its place in the universe. It was never to forget this first sunrise; if asked, “What are you?” it would relive this experience. From here on, there was an explosion of life and technology: Life able to reproduce on its own but still tied telepathically to the one mind of the planet. To facilitate this expansion of life, the Hive Mind partitioned off sections of itself, each one controlling one type of life form. The Hive Mind then began experimenting with sentient life forms, tired of being alone. A bipedal life form capable of withstanding life on the surface was eventually developed. It did not breathe air; it slept within pools of water filled with tiny larval forms to feed upon and extracted oxygen to store within its tissues (the precursor of the grays). Thus, a great civilization came into existence, which reached out to the heavens looking for others like themselves.
